English Translation:
Once upon a time, there was a farmer in the state of Song. He worked hard in his field every day. One day, a rabbit suddenly darted out from the bushes. In its panic, it crashed into a tree stump by the field and died. The farmer picked up the dead rabbit without any effort. He thought: "If I could pick up a rabbit every day, how wonderful that would be!" From then on, he put down his hoe and waited by the stump every day. But no more rabbits ever crashed into the stump. His field became overgrown and all his crops withered.
