Grammar 语法讲解

Grammar Point 1: 时间表达
In Chinese, time is expressed as "Number + 点 + Number + 分" (diǎn + fēn). For example, 3:30 is "三点半" (sān diǎn bàn) or "三点三十分" (sān diǎn sān shí fēn). For 12-hour clock, you can add "上午" (shàng wǔ) for AM and "下午" (xià wǔ) for PM.
现在是八点。
Xiàn zài shì bā diǎn.
It's eight o'clock now.
现在是上午九点十五分。
Xiàn zài shì shàng wǔ jiǔ diǎn shí wǔ fēn.
It's 9:15 AM now.
现在是下午三点半。
Xiàn zài shì xià wǔ sān diǎn bàn.
It's 3:30 PM now.
Grammar Point 2: 日期表达
In Chinese, dates are expressed in the order of year, month, day: "Year + 年 (nián) + Month + 月 (yuè) + Day + 日 (rì)". For example, 2023年1月1日 is "二〇二三年一月一日" (èr líng èr sān nián yī yuè yī rì). When asking for the date, use "今天是几月几号?" (Jīn tiān shì jǐ yuè jǐ hào?).
今天是二〇二三年三月十五日。
Jīn tiān shì èr líng èr sān nián sān yuè shí wǔ rì.
Today is March 15, 2023.
我的生日是二〇〇五年五月八日。
Wǒ de shēng rì shì èr líng líng wǔ nián wǔ yuè bā rì.
My birthday is May 8, 2005.

Culture Tip: Chinese Calendar

China uses both the Gregorian calendar (阳历 yáng lì) and the traditional Chinese lunar calendar (阴历 yīn lì). Important festivals like Chinese New Year (春节 Chūn jié) are based on the lunar calendar.

In Chinese culture, time is often perceived as cyclical rather than linear. Punctuality is important, especially in business settings, but social events may start a bit later than scheduled. When making appointments, it's common to specify the exact time and date to avoid confusion.
